Cambridge Salutes JBT CAT for Industry Innovation

Manufacturer recognizes equipment partner for design advancement

Cambridge, MD, February 1, 2017 -- Cambridge Engineered Solutions, the world’s largest manufacturer of metal conveyor belts, presented its annual POEM award to JBT CAT, a division of JBT Corporation, at the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) on January 31 in Atlanta. Recognizing outstanding collaborations in research and development of equipment systems, the POEM award – Partnerships in Original Equipment Manufacturing – was presented to CAT for their role creating CamEDGE MORE, a new edge-driven stainless steel spiral system conveyor belt for poultry industry processors.

Director of Business Crystal Willey presented the award to CAT President Barton Langley and Refrigeration/Freezing Products Manager Darin Chancellor on behalf of Cambridge CEO Tracy Tyler. The presentation was made during an afternoon reception for OEMs in front of a working conveyor outfitted with CamEDGE MORE.

“Under Barton Langley’s leadership, CAT has established a well deserved reputation for innovation and problem solving in the equipment manufacturing industry,” said Tyler. “Since founding the company 20 years ago, he has fostered technological advances in food processing by coupling calculated risks with proven expertise.”

In presenting the award, Willey explained how the two companies worked together to support a large poultry processor seeking enhanced product safety. CamEDGE MORE was developed originally in response to a request by CAT and installed at a poultry processor in Arkansas.

“One of our largest and most valued customers approached us to identify a replacement for their plastic conveyor belts,” said Langley. “Recognizing Cambridge’s expertise with food safety processing solutions, I invited their engineers to work with us and the result was the unique mesh overlay that enhances food safety, quality and throughput.”

Cambridge has since manufactured and installed a mile of the metal conveyor belt  – more than 5,000 linear feet – for CAT systems customized for poultry processing plants. The company unveiled CamEDGE MORE to the broad market at IPPE with JBT CAT.

Offering an added dimension to its popular CamEDGE conveyor belt, MORE refers to the interior mesh overlay that accommodates smaller foods and soft poultry and meat parts placed directly on the belt for cooling and freezing processes as they travel through the spiral.

CAT also showcased both CamEDGE and CamEDGE MORE at IPPE on two spiral conveyors. “Being diverse and listening to what our customers want and need has always been our goal at CAT,” Langley added. “We felt it was a good fit for our team and the right time to supply a more efficient spiral freezer to the industry.”
