Cambridge International Represented at Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act Hearing

Dion Banks, Director of Governmental Affairs for Cambridge International, testified yesterday, February 23, 2012, at the First Reading of the Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2012 before the House of Representatives.

This initiative seeks to include offshore wind energy in the Maryland Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard Program. The intentions are to supply electricity derived from an offshore wind farm in Ocean City, MD.

Banks was chosen as a representative for this issue due to his extensive knowledge of renewable energy resources, his association with the Maryland Offshore Wind Business and Organization Coalition, and his role in developing innovative and sustainable technologies for Cambridge Environmental Technologies, a division of the century-old engineering and manufacturing company, Cambridge International.

“Cambridge International is excited to be a part of the state’s initiative to reduce our carbon footprint, address the concerns of energy security and to create jobs for Maryland residents,” says Banks. “We are pleased to be a partner with the Governor as we work as a team to create a sustainable state.”

This initiative is supported by many local and national government agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Governor Martin O’Malley, as well as environmental organizations like the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and National Wildlife Federation. There is also significant support from local Maryland businesses as this initiative seeks not only to provide long-term solutions for renewable energy, but to provide jobs and help drive the state of Maryland forward as a manufacturing hub for the United States.
